Erica Sherman and her 3 children, Mason (7), Ashlynn (3), and Camden (5 months), dream of the day when they can spread out in their new Habitat home. Erica has been working through the program for more than a year. “When I first found out, I couldn’t believe it was happening to me!” It hasn’t always been easy–the family moved in with Erica’s mother to save money for the new home. “I love her,” Erica laughs, “but we’re ready to go.”
“Mason’s the one who understands,” says Erica. “He’s excited about his own space. His sister drives him crazy.” He’s chosen John Cena, a WWE wrestler, as his decoration theme for his room. Ashlynn wants to sleep in her new toddler bed and set up her play kitchen. And Erica is ready to move little Camden out of her room.
Mason enjoys sports, especially soccer and watching football. Erica helps with his youth activities through Greene Road Church. Ashlynn takes after her mom in her love of dance—Erica took ballet, jazz, and tap growing up. She and the kids spend time together bowling or going to the movies as a special treat.
Mason’s being tested for the “gifted” track as he enters 2nd grade next year, and Erica hopes he’ll be more challenged. She would like to get Ashlynn into more pre-school programs—“Got to keep them out of trouble,” Erica laughs. Camden is working hard at rolling over and crawling.
Erica works for Personal Touch Cleaning. Hoping to broaden her earning potential, she plans to train as a dental assistant when she finishes building. She continually furthers her education as she plans a brighter future for her kids.
Habitat is a crucial part of that plan. Erica says, “It’s meant everything to me. It’s a new beginning. It’s a stable future for us, and that’s what I’m looking forward to. I believe GOD has me right where he wants me.”
