Donated property support construction of affordable homes, stabilizing neighborhoods in the Bristol area
Goshen, IN (April, 1, 2014) – Bank of America has donated one property to Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County in support of the affiliate’s efforts to build affordable housing in partnership with low-income families in Elkhart County.
The donations are part of a national partnership with Habitat for Humanity International through which the bank will donate up to 2,000 vacant properties for renovation or reconstruction over the next three years. In Elkhart County low-income families will build in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County volunteers over the next three months, building two new homes on the donated property.
“The donation of this property by Bank of America is a tremendous boost to our efforts to help two families get out of substandard housing,” — Tom McArthur
“The donation of this property by Bank of America is a tremendous boost to our efforts to help two families get out of substandard housing,” said Tom McArthur, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County. “Because of this work and thanks in part to Bank of America, families and entire communities can build stronger foundations on which to thrive.”
In Elkhart County, Ind., Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County recently approved a budget that would allow the affiliate to partner with 10 low-income families in the current fiscal year. Through the property donation program, the affiliate has accepted one property in the Bristol community. This property will be the location for the 175th and 176th houses that Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County has built in its 27 year history.
In addition to the property donation programs through Bank of America Home Loans, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation has contributed more than $22 million to Habitat’s work around the world through a national partnership launched in 2002. Additionally, bank employees annually contribute more than 30,000 volunteer hours to help rehab and build homes.
A portion of the properties donated by Bank of America will be included in the bank’s recent commitment to make up to 1,000 properties available to nonprofit organizations providing housing opportunities for military veterans. Other properties as part of that commitment will be renovated to provide relief for families affected by disasters.
